Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) the corner stone at Sol Bodyworks

REMEDIAL MASSAGE A NATURAL APPROACH TO BETTER HEALTH

NMT is highly effective for people who present with chronic myofascial pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. Some of the techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care.

An experienced therapist uses some or all of the below principles based on individual needs to improve performance in sport, dance and activities of everyday life (ADLs) to treat issues of persistent use or overuse syndromes. In effect prevent potential more serious injuries due to these activities that may otherwise be left untreated until we end up at the doctors unable go to work or perform our usual tasks.

Principles of NMT: assessments and examinations primarily addressed

  • ischemia (tight tissue with reduced blood flow)… foundation of massage therapy

  • myofascial trigger points (TrP) hypersensitive points within muscles that give rise to referred phenomena, including pain

  • neural entrapment (pressure on nerves by muscles and other soft tissues), and nerve compression (pressure on nerves by osseous and other bonelike tissues, such as cartilage or discs).

  • postural assessment (assessment of the position of the body)

  • and dysfunctional gait patterns (manner of movement when walking)

  • with constant consideration for many other perpetuating factors such as hydration, nutrition, breathing patterns, and psychologic stress.

The correct use of these principles direct the therapist to address each individual on their unique needs and provide overall better outcomes. The use of NMT does not reflect how each therapist applies techniques when it comes to neural entrapment, aligning posture and effectively treating TrP. Like reading a map, once on the path the terrain may look very different to first thought and each challenge is met in the moment the acquired knowledge and past experiences now are drawn on to reach our destination.
